Catherine Ford was born Bloomsbury in London. After her father's death the family of Ford, they were managed by her mom, grandmother, and godparents. As a young girl, she struggled with obsessive-compulsive disorder, and also suffered from anxiety due to the word"association. Ford was fascinated by acting during her teens, she joined the National Youth Theatre. After being admitted to Sylvia Young Theatre School for brief time, Ford decided that it wasn't the ideal location for her. Ford, instead of applying for admission to Central School of Speech and Drama and winning a placement after her third try she applied for and was awarded an admission to the Central School of Speech and Drama. Shaun Dingwall was one of Ford's classmates. The actor went on to get frequent roles on the show as Pete Tyler and Doctor Who. Ford completed her degree in 1993 however in the meantime she was already making her debut on television in an episode from 1991 in the show Surgical Spirit; she adopted her professional title "Catherine Tate". Tate was a part of such television shows like The Bill, Men Behaving Badly and London Burning. Apart from her regular performances in the theatre, Tate also joined the Royal Shakespeare Company in 2000-2001. Tate's stand-up comedy, which she began adding to her show in 1996, quickly gained her attention.
